"This home is less than 20 square meters in size. The window faces north, and the entrance is through a corridor to the south. The appointments are simple, just a relatively large desk, a pair of sofas, and two bookcases." Thus does the book "The Critical Moment – Li Peng Diaries" describe the office of Deng Xiaoping's residence at No. 5, Miliangku Hutong, Beijing. Several meetings among the top levels of the Chinese Communist Party regarding the June 4th crackdown occurred in this room. This is the classic style of dictators in poorly-developed countries. Other office locations shown in this map played roles in forming the crackdown policy — perhaps small roles, but important ones. Just as Li Peng said, "We remained in our offices in the Zhongnanhai, watching events at Tian'anmen."

Locations important to the crackdown policy include Deng Xiaoping's residence; Li Peng's office; Yang Shangkun's office; Liu Huaqing's office; Huairen Hall, Zhongnanhai; General Office of the Central Military Commission; People's Liberation Army General Logistics Department Assembly Hall; Central Advisory Commission; Beijing Committee; Beijing City Government; National Defense University Assembly Hall; and the Great Hall of the People.
