The "HK Alliance Dispatch" was first published August 27th, 1989. The "Dispatch" was published semi-monthly by the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (the Alliance). In its pages, the "Dispatch" explored the development of democracy in China, and took as its main focus "paying attention to prisoners of conscience, and people and events related to the fight for democracy and human rights". Features included "In Focus", which explored topics related to China's political development; "Lens on the Democracy Movement", which reported on news related to China's human rights violations and the status of the democracy movement in Hong Kong, Macao, China, and Taiwan; "Xidan Resurgence", which reported on things going on with democracy movement activists, and published Alliance members' thoughts on current politics; "Eye on China", which provided the latest in democracy movement and human rights news for the Mainland; the "Weiquan Column", in which the China Weiquan Lawyers Group introduced the status of Weiquan (human rights protection movement) lawyers in the Mainland and rule of law developments in China; writing from readers; and information on the Alliance's events.
The "HK Alliance Dispatch" was originally sent free of charge to Alliance members, volunteers, and friends. Hong Kongers could also obtain copies at Alliance events. Beginning in May 2019, paper publication was paused on the "HK Alliance Dispatch"; the Alliance continued to use the internet and social media platforms to publish articles and event information.
