May 27th, 1989, the Committee of Journalists Supporting the Beijing Students' Patriotic Democratic Movement, founded primarily by Ng Chung-yin, published the first issue of "Tide of Democracy" under the name of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China. Four issues of "Tide of Democracy" were published, with 200,000 copies printed each issue. They were distributed free of charge. At the time, Hong Kongers of the time grabbed up every copy they could get. In addition to organizing the public to distribute the issues themselves, some also worked in secret to bring copies back to the Mainland in hopes of mobilizing the masses.
