May 27th, 1989, in Happy Valley, Hong Kong, more than 100 stars from Hong Kong and Taiwan held the Concert for Democracy in China, where they lent their voices to support the students in Beijing. By the end of the event, they had raised HK$13 million in donations, all of which were used to support the 1989 student movement.
The Concert for Democracy in China was planned in less than a week; but at the calling of Anita Mui Yim-Fong, the "Big Sister of the Entertainment World", 100 entertainers completed recording the song "For Freedom" in a very short time. On the 27th, the day of the performance, the stage was draped with a white banner whose red lettering said "The Entire Hong Kong Entertainment Community Supports the Beijing Student Movement".
